What's the Difference Between Cast & Extruded Acrylic?

Both cast and extruded acrylic are crystal-clear acrylic materials, but they're manufactured differently and perform differently in certain applications.

Extruded Acrylic:
Extruded acrylic is manufactured by continuously pushing acrylic through rollers to form a sheet. This process allows it to be produced efficiently and with consistent thickness. It's an excellent choice for general fabrication, saw cutting, CNC routing, displays, protective panels, shelving, signage, and many other applications.

Cell Cast Acrylic:
Cell cast acrylic is produced by casting liquid acrylic between sheets of glass. It generally offers better machining characteristics and is our preferred material for laser cutting and engraving, particularly when a clean polished laser-cut edge or detailed engraving is important.

Important for Laser Users

If you're purchasing specifically for laser cutting, please be aware that this material is extruded acrylic.

Extruded acrylic can be laser cut, but it behaves differently than cell cast acrylic. It tends to produce a different edge finish and generally does not engrave with the same frosted-white appearance associated with cast acrylic.
