Cutting Acrylic Mirror on a SawStop: What You Need to Know
Share
Acrylic mirror contains a metallic reflective backing that can conduct electricity. Because SawStop saws detect conductivity to trigger the safety brake, cutting acrylic mirror can accidentally activate the brake if the saw is left in normal mode.
What to Do
Before cutting acrylic mirror:
- Put the SawStop into Bypass Mode
- Confirm Bypass Mode is active using the indicator lights
- Make your cuts as normal
- Exit Bypass Mode after cutting is complete
Check out this manual for step-by-step instructions for enabling Bypass mode on your Sawstop.
Why This Matters
If Bypass Mode is not used, the SawStop may:
- Instantly stop the blade
- Destroy the brake cartridge
- Ruin the blade
This is normal behavior for the safety system and not a saw malfunction.
⚠️ Important: There is no blade protection in Bypass Mode. Use proper safety precautions at all times.
